Maxine Green Burger Black, 102, of Overland Park, passed away on January 22, 2020. A memorial service will be at 11:30am Monday January 27, 2020 at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. Private burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
Maxine was born February 19, 1917 in southeast Kansas and lived in the Kansas City area most of her life. She attended Pittsburg State College. Before retiring in 1982 she worked as a secretary for the Kansas City Medical Group, Trans World Airlines and during World War II, for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia. After retirement she worked for the Johnson County Park and Recreation District for seven years. Her favorite interests were music, travel, art and photography.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.Q. and Ethel (Brown) Green, her first husband, Richard A. Burger who died in 1965; her second husband, Marvin C. Black who died in 1999; and her two sisters: Imogene Evans and Cleta Smith. She is survived by two nephews: Stephen Smith and his wife, Margaret, and Douglas Smith; two nieces, Elaine Hanrahan and her husband, Michael, and Janet Breames; several great nieces and nephews.
