Agnes Overby

Agnes (Downer) Overby, 86, Shawnee, KS, died November 17, 2012, at her home. Graveside services and Interment will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Angelyn Overby- Kirk Scholarship fund at the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg. She was born May 29, 1926, in Richland, GA, the daughter of Roy W. and Jewell (Poole) Downer. She graduated from Richland High School in 1943. She graduated from Mercer University, Macon, GA, with a B.A. degree; a Master's degree and Specialist degree from University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg. She was united in marriage to Milton Overby on May 13, 1945. They shared over sixty-seven years of marriage. Agnes taught over twenty years as an elementary school teacher for Center School District, Kansas City, MO. She also taught school at Knob Noster, MO, and Charleston, SC. She was an active pastor's wife for sixty-one years, and at her death she was a member of the Leawood Baptist Church, Leawood, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Angelyn Overby- Kirk; her son, Malcom Overby; a brother, E.P. Downer. Agnes is survived by her husband, Milton of the home; a brother, Lee Downer and his wife, Ronnie of Chipley, FL; two grandchildren, James Dean Gill and Renee Kirk; and three great grandchildren, Malcolm, Madelene and Jewel.
