Alan L. Newbold, 75, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010. A celebration of Alan’s life will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 4 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Indoor Mausoleum, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Following the service, friends are invited to stay and visit with the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, Wayside Waifs or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Alan was born August 24, 1935 to Thora and Leo Newbold in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah. Alan received his undergraduate degree from the University of Utah and his master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He pursued his interest in the graphic arts and graduated from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco.
Alan was an Art Director for several Kansas City advertising agencies and was a past president of the Kansas City Art Director’s Club.
He had many hobbies and interests including painting, model making, photography and fly fishing. He was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan.
One of his proudest accomplishments in life was his service to his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955-1960. During that period he made many lifelong friends.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Kent Newbold.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Trish; sister-in-law, Marilyn Newbold of Magna, UT; brothers-in-law, Ed (Donna) Sweeney, Bill (Joy) Sweeney, sisters-in-law, Mary Sweeney, Mary Jo (Mike) Sweeney, all of Monett, MO. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, and special companion cat, Bucky.
