Albert Sherman "Bert" Krisher, 79, passed away October 9, 2008, in Overland Park, Kan.
He was born August 28, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Sherman and Gladys Krisher. He grew up in Perry, Okla., and graduated from Oklahoma A&M University with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He married Hilda Boyle of Galveston, Texas, on November 25, 1954. Bert worked at Monsanto for 43 years as a chemical and corrosion engineer, achieving the status of fellow during his distinguished career. He started his own consulting business, ASK Associates, after retiring from Monsanto. He served the Materials Technology Institute in several roles over the years, including fellow, associate director and executive director. He was recognized internationally as a water treatment and corrosion specialist. His colleagues remember him fondly as "one of the good guys." Bert was a loving father and husband. He shared his many passions with his family. He loved baseball, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. Many of his fondest memories were of time spent at a Colorado dude ranch. He was a talented wood worker, building furniture for the home, and later developing an interest in the art of carving shorebirds. His work took him to many corners of the world, where he enjoyed experiencing the people, culture and history.
He is survived by his wife Hilda of Overland Park, daughter Anita of Overland Park, son Gregory of Mead, Colo., sister Lois of Ocala, Fla., brother Patterson of Tucson, Ariz., grandson Daniel of Overland Park and grandson Kevin of Overland Park. He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman, his mother, Gladys, and an infant son.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. November 1, 2008, at D.W. Newcomer's and Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kan. Visitation following the service. Cremation.
