Alfred Merlin Waechter, 81, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away June 30, 2009.
He was born July 17, 1927, in New Orleans, La., to George and Henrietta Waechter. Alfred was a retired employee of Amoco Oil Company with 40 years of service. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Overland Park, where he actively served. Alfred gave of his time volunteering for many years at Overland Park Regional Hospital and his residential home association serving as Treasurer for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lillian C. Waechter; his sons, Al (Colleen) of Overland Park, and Steve (Cathy) of Sugar Land, Texas; daughter, Susan Garcia (John) of Sugar Land; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Katherine, Stevie, Angela, Renee and Scott; and one surviving sister, Marion Pierce, Picayune, Miss.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 3, at D.W. Newcomer's Johnson County Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at the Christ Lutheran Church, 11720 Nieman, Overland Park, KS 66210. Entombment will follow at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
