Allyn S. Polson, 79, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 at St. Luke's South Hospital from complications following a stroke. The family wishes to thank all of those caring individuals at St. Luke's ICU, who provided him with exceptional care & compassion. Al is survived by his wife & soul mate of 57 years, Carol V. Polson; daughter & son-in-law, Jacki & Sherrill Yurth of Petaluma, CA; son Patrick of Louisburg, KS; daughter Bethe of Overland Park, KS; 2 grandchildren, Wyatt & Hannah Yurth of Petaluma, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Al was preceded in death by his son, Allyn S. Polson, Jr. and his daughter-in- law, Michelle Rola Polson; as well as by his sister, Signe Ann (Phil) Buerger. Allyn was born in Niles, Ohio, to Alver E. & Evelyn Smith Polson, on October, 4, 1930. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, graduating from Collinwood High School in 1948. Al attended Case Institute of Technology (now part of Case Western Reserve) in Cleveland, OH, where he received his degree in Chemical Engineering, while acquiring Engineering Honor Society Tau Beta Pi, as well has being a member of Who's Who in Colleges and Universities. Al then went on to receive a Masters degree in Business Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. Allyn worked for Procter & Gamble for 43 years – moving to Kansas City with his family in 1966. He retired from P&G in 1994 and went on to enjoy traveling extensively with Carol – in both the US and abroad. Al was a lifelong sports fan, who took that love to managing a number of youth baseball and softball teams, as well as being the sports director for the Nall Hills Homes Association. These were times he always looked back to with great fondness for all of his 'kids'. Those who knew him will remember him for his great sense of humor, warm and ready smile, and his thoughtfulness. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 21st, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at D.W Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210.
