Althea Stricker

Althea E. Stricker, age 96, of Mission, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013. She was born February 28, 1917 in Golden Valley County, North Dakota to her parents, Lottie and Alva Bettis. Althea was an only child. She grew up in Corydon and Clio, Iowa.
Althea graduated from Corydon High School in 1935. She attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated with a specialization in secretarial studies. She married Robert G. Stricker in Des Moines, Iowa on November 13, 1943. They had four children in four different cities, as Bob's job required them to move frequently. They finally settled in Prairie Village, Kansas where she lived in the same house for 57 years.
Althea was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church since 1954. She was on bowling teams, golfed with a woman's club and with her husband, and she enjoyed square dancing.
Althea was preceded in death in 2000, by her husband, Bob. She is survived by her children: Steve (Susan) Stricker, Susan Kane, Judy Harlow and Mary Jo (Jeff) Dold; her eight grandchildren: Chris (Don) Cantrell, Melissa Lantz, Mark (Tiffany) Stricker, Mike (Toni) Kane, Jason (Missa) Kane, Jessie (Travis) Clements, Brian Dold and Kelly Dold. Althea is also survived by ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She will be remembered by long-time family friend, Dana Stricker.
Relatives and friends are invited to join her family for a visitation at D.W. Newcomer's Sons at 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas on Monday, August 26, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, at St. Ann's Catholic Church at 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at Resurrection Cemetery immediately after the mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic Community Hospice or Epilepsy Foundation of KC.
