Amalia Banuelos, 59, resident of Ulysses, Kansas peacefully passed away on Monday, November 2, 2009 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. The cause of death was metastatic colon cancer.
Amalia was born on October 12, 1950 in Orange Grove, Texas to Alfredo and Rebecca Garza. She was a resident of Ulysses for 31 years. Amalia was employed by Columbian Chemicals for 18 years. She delighted in working as a real estate agent and most recently was employed by Aztec Realty. Her favorite past times included performing random acts of kindness and talking with her family and many best friends. Amalia volunteered and served on the board of Domestic Violence Emergency Service (DoVES), as well as on the board of the HIGH Program. Amalia attended church and served on the church board at the Redeemed Unto Life Healing Center in Ulysses, KS. She was known and will always be remembered for thinking of others first and acting on her inclinations to serve others.
She is survived by her husband, Abel Banuelos of Ulysses, Kansas; Children: Elisa and her husband, Christopher Haake, Enedelia Amy and her husband, Chad Sanner, Amalia Crystal and her husband, Kenneth Harvey, Abel Jason Banuelos and his wife, Kristin; grandchildren: Mia Sanner, Eli Sanner, Diane Haake, and baby Harvey, who has yet to arrive, all of the Kansas City area; mother, Rebecca Garza; siblings: Noelia Carbajal, Marta Flores, Lucia Gutierrez, Fred Garza, of Ulysses, Kansas, and Ramiro Garza of the Kansas City area; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfredo Garza of Ulysses, Kansas.
Amalia was laid to rest on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Newcomer’s Cemetery, in Overland Park, Kansas. Bart Lillibridge officiated at the service. Pallbearers were Jason Banuelos, Chad Sanner, Christopher Haake, and Robert Contreras.
