Anna Mary Diebold, 84, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021, at Olathe Health Hospice House.
Anna was born in Ferns, Ireland, the daughter of William and Catherine (Fleming) Fanning.
She married Vernie Newton in 1962 and lived in Shawnee, Kansas. They had two sons, Vernie Newton, Jr. and Kelly Newton. They divorced in 1970 and she married Eugene Diebold in 1972 until his death in 1992.
She enjoyed working many years for the Shawnee Police Department as a Crossing Guard at Shawanoe Elementary School, and later as a children’s Daycare Worker at the Georgetown and Element fitness centers in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
She loved her family and the time they spent together. She enjoyed going on walks, watching the Chiefs football games, cooking, senior aerobics, attending church services, traveling, reading books, listening to music, and attending many events and outings with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Colm Fanning, Patrick Fanning, Bridie Meyler, and husband.
She is survived by her brothers: Tom (Jean) Fanning and Liam (Kathleen) McFadden; sons: Vernie (Laura) Newton, Jr. and Kelly (Rebecca) Newton; grandchildren: Dannell Newton (Steve Vines), Zachary (Heather) Newton, Mariah (Harry) Spencer; and great-grandchildren: Abigail Newton and Tyler Newton.
Memorial contributions in memory of Anna may be given to the Olathe Hospice House, 15310 S. Marion Street, Olathe, KS 66061.
