ANNA MARIE (GUNNER) MAPES, 84, Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully at her home on November 3, 2013.

She was born February 18, 1929 in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Michael Joseph and Ardath Franklin (Pickett) Gunner. She was a proud graduate of Wyandotte High School class of 1947. She graduated from KU Nursing School as an RN and worked at KU Medical Center until 1956.
Anna Marie married her high school sweetheart, Robert Lee Mapes on September 21, 1952. They shared over 35 years of companionship, love and support in marriage before his death on October 1, 1987.
She started a second career as a financial planner for Waddell & Reed and later became a stockbroker for various firms and finally, as an independent.
After her retirement she enjoyed traveling to many places in the world including multiple trips to the Gold Coast of Spain. She also hiked to the top of Machu Picchu with a grade school friend at the age of 75.
Mrs. Mapes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Carolyn Herold; and a nephew, Steve Herold.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey S. Mapes, Overland Park KS; her daughter, Jennifer L. Mapes-Camp, Overland Park, KS; her sister, Virginia Terry, Carthage, MO; and various nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, November 7, 2013 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. The family will receive friends before the service at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to American Diabetes Association, 6900 College Blvd. Suite 250, Leawood, KS 66211 or Crossroads Hospice, 11150 Thompson Ave Lenexa, KS 66219.
