Marshall, age 91, passed away June 28, 2013 in Boulder, CO. He was born September 12, 1921 in Argentine, KS. An accomplished musician, he traveled the country to play with some of the greatest jazz musicians of his time. His music career included playing with the Warren Durrett Orchestra, the KC Kicks Band, singer Marilyn Maye and in the orchestra at Starlight Theater. He taught music for 40 years at the Toon Shop. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army overseas during World War II. He then met the love of his life, Dorothy Reynolds of Miami, OK., and they were married in Detroit on February 23, 1952. He was preceded in death by his sister Rachel and his daughter Marjorie. He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 61 years; his brother Frank DeMuynck and sister-in-law Mercita DeMuynck of Oak Park, IL., his sister Mary Jane Brown of San Diego, his daughter Marcia McMichael and son-in-law Scott McMichael of Broomfield, CO., grandson Bryce McMichael and his wife Libby McMichael of Chicago, granddaughter Morgan Schimke and her husband Chad Schimke of Lansing, KS., and a great-grandson, 4 month old Gage Schimke, also of Lansing. Marshall played the most beautiful saxophone, full of heart and soul. He will be dearly missed. We would like to thank Manor Care Boulder and Evercare Hospice for the loving care and compassion that was given to Marshall and Dorothy. Services will be held at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS, on August 10, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Donations can be made to Hospice and the Alzheimer's Association.
