passed away Sun. Jan. 24, 2010. Born Feb.
16, 1927 to Ida Laverne and Ross Jacob
Steed, Arlene was raised in Farmington, Ut.
She received her BS in Education from
University of Utah and her MS in Reading
from K.U.. Arlene loved socializing, flower arranging, enjoying good food, entertaining, organizing, and teaching. She taught primary grades in Shawnee Mission School District from 1966-1982. She was preceded in death by her eternal companion, James Cummings Ritchie and her son, Steffen Peter Ritchie. Arlene is survived by her children, Kathleen Woffinden, Rebecca Speakman, Sarah Yamazaki, James Steed Ritchie, twenty grandchildren, eighteen great-grand children and two of her brothers, Richard and Sherman Steed. The family wishes to thank her friends and dedicated caregivers who provided much support as she endured with grace these many years with Parkinson’s disease. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 13025 Wornall Rd. K.C., MO 64114 with a visitation from 10 A.M. and service following at 11 A.M.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund through www.ldsphilanthropies.org (Arr.:DW Newcomer’s Sons (913) 451-1860.)
