Arthur was born in Chicago, Illinois to Frances and Hazel Barrett. He joined the Air Force in March 1948. In his travels he was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany where he met his wife, Ursula von der Becke. They were married in August 1956. Ursula preceded Arthur in death. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Barrett of the home; a son, Lester Barrett of Leavenworth Ks; grandchildren: Michael and Michelle Barrett of San Antonio, TX, Sylvia Barrett of Galveston, TX, Kelli Barrett of Dallas, TX; four great-grand children; Step children: Lucresia James of Olathe, KS, Teresa Sedlack of Olathe, KS, Daniel Parker of Appleton City, Mo; nine step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and son, Michael. He served in Korea and was part of the Kysu Gypsies and was an airborne radioman. Arthur was awarded the distinguish flying cross while in Korea. He was the radio man of an unarmed transport aircraft in airlifting urgently needed military supplies and personnel into the battle areas of Korea. Arthur served in Vietnam as radio man on a transport aircraft airlifting needed military supplies. Arthur helped take the Goonie Birds to retirement. He served 20 years in the Air Force. Family request donations to Veterans organizations in lieu of flowers.
