Arthur R. Cressman Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully at age 90 on Oct. 27, 2012, with his loving wife, Lorraine, of 67 years at his side. A member of the "Greatest Generation", Art was born in Pasadena, California and graduated from Avalon High School in Santa Catalina Island, CA. He was the youngest power boat captain in the State of California, and, while working for several Hollywood film studios, ferried movie studio actors and studio heads to various offshore locations. Despite his nautical expertise, Art entered the Army Air Force after Pearl Harbor. Art was assigned to the 8th Air Force, 322nd, Bomb Squadron and 91st Bomb Group. He flew 32 combat missions over Germany as a Bombardier and a ball turret gunner on B-17's, earning The Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters, three Air Medals and several other WW II decorations. He was again honored by his country with his induction into the COMMEMORATIVE AIR FORCE HALL OF FAME in Midland, Texas where his bust and contribution to the country will be perpetually enshrined. Returning home in 1943, he met Lorraine, the love of his life, on the boardwalk in Atlantic City and began their loving lives together which lasted seven decades.
Art attended the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, after which he had a distinguished career with Becton Dickinson & Co. continued to advance attaining the position of Regional Sales Manager until his retirement in Oct., 1984.
As befitting the humble and loving man that he was, Art was a member of the Ararat Shrine and a volunteer at Overland Park Regional Medical Center amassing more than thirty years of volunteer service.
In addition to his wife Lorraine, Art leaves his loving sons Art Jr. (Lily) of Dallas, Texas, Jim (Mary) of Bolingbrook, IL and daughter Diane (Keefe) of Dallas, Texas; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210; Nov. 10, 2012 at 11AM with inurnment immediately afterward and a reception to follow.
