Arthur Jarvis Peter, known to some as Art and to others as Jarv and still others as "Pete," was born on August 2, 1918, to Art and Dessie Peter on their farm in Randolph, Kansas. After high school, he attended Swallow Aircraft School in Wichita, KS and ended up in Los Angeles, CA working the graveyard shift at Douglas Aircraft for 52½ cents an hour. He moved to a day job in the tool room where he learned the tool and die trade and became lead man over the bench tool makers. On a trip back to Kansas, he advertised for passengers to help pay for expenses and that is how he met his wife Mary Elizabeth Dane. As a result, he got a permanent rider and said he never put another ad in the paper. They were married on February 21, 1943. They settled in Inglewood, California, both working at Douglas Aircraft. Jarv was a WWII veteran serving in the army at the Battle of the Bulge where he was wounded. He received a purple heart and three bronze stars for his service to his country. His wife was expecting their first child at the time and his daughter was born on the same day he was wounded. Upon his return from the war 13 months later he was reunited with his wife and the baby girl he had never seen. Jarv and his wife settled in Manhattan, KS where he worked as a tool and die maker for the Viking Implement Co. His second child, a boy, was born several years later.

In 1950, Jarv took a job with the Bendix Corporation/Honeywell in Kansas City and they moved to Fairway, Kansas. He retired in 1983. He was a devoted father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed. There was not anything he could not do and did not do for his family and friends. If it was broke, he could fix it, everything from toys to cars. He could also build just about anything from an extra room on his house to a snow slide. His family was saved countless expenses thanks to his woodworking and mechanical skills. He loved birds and had many feeders outside his family room window which gave him many hours of enjoyment.

Jarv was preceded in death by his parents and brother Don. He is survived by his wife Mary of 69 years; his sister Margie Wohler and her husband Dale of Randolph, KS; his daughter Marsha Hoffman and husband Mike of Lenexa; son Michael Peter and wife Sally of Fayetteville, Georgia; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
