Arthur R. “Bob” McDonald, 84, passed away on March 8, 2022, at his residence at Santa Marta in Olathe. Bob was born on October 27, 1937 to Arthur and Mary McDonald and grew up in the Rosedale area of Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from St. Agnes High School in 1955 where he was a good athlete and played multiple sports. Bob attended the University of Kansas and served overseas in the United States Army. He married Judith Ann Boice on September 16, 1961 at Saint Agnes. She preceded him in death in 2010.
Bob had a long career in management at General Motors until he retired in 1991. While at GM, Bob started and ran a car repair service in Lenexa for several years. After retirement, he worked as a golf course marshal and for car dealerships, among other things, just to keep himself busy and have fun with two of his favorite passions.
Bob longed to be outdoors and relished his time there. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and cyclist. Bob spent many summer days on a boat fishing at Pomme De Terre. He loved golf and would both play and help others with his “guaranteed” advice. He rode his prized bicycles often and for long distances. In his 70s, he rode not just for pleasure but also to get himself to work. He also had a fondness for cars and owned many over his lifetime starting with his Austin Healy 3000 convertible.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister Patricia O’Brien. He is survived by his brother Ken (Barb) McDonald, his brother-in-law Bill (Linda) Boice and nine nieces and nephews.
Bob will be buried next to his beloved wife, Judy, at Johnson County Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, March 22nd with a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas or Kansas City Hospice in memory of Bob.
