Arvil Hosie (Louie or Buck) Lewis, 82, of Kansas City, KS passed away on November 10, 2011 at Shawnee Mission Hospital. He was born in Batesville, AR on August 14, 1929, as one of five children of Lee H. and Mary E. Lewis. He was raised in Poplar Bluff, MO but made Kansas City his home since he was a teenager.
He was a strong, independent, and hard working man. He retired in 1980 from General Motors at the age of 50, after working 30 years on the assembly line, 25 years as a Line Foreman. He enjoyed sports and was a huge Kansas City Chiefs and University of Kansas fan. As a "jack of all trades", Louie could figure out how to fix anything. He loved being outside and filled much of his time tending to his garden and yard. He enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 30 years, Mary Lou Lewis, who passed away in 1975. He leaves behind two daughters, Linda M. Lewis of Kansas City, KS and Joyce E. Austin of Lenexa, KS, 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren as well as his brother Omer Neal Lewis of Poplar Bluff, MO.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at D.W. Newcomer's Sons, Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS on Saturday, November 19th at 3:00 p.m. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
