Barbara Alta Baird “Babs” Lundberg, age 83, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away September 6, 2010 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri.
Memorial services will be 2PM, October 2, 2010 at D.W. Newcomer’s and Sons Johnson County Chapel.
Babs Lundberg was born on June 4, 1927 in Evanston, Illinois. She grew up in Winnetka, Illinois and graduated from New Trier High School. She attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO in 1945 and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. It was there that she had a blind date with a handsome Marine, Verner Lundberg, who became her beloved husband of 64 years. While raising five children, Vern and Babs lived in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska; Columbus, Ohio; Deerfield, Illinois; and settled into the Leawood/Overland Park, Kansas area for the past 43 years. During those years, Babs volunteered over 20,000 hours at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City. She was a 40-year member of the Leawood Women’s Club and held various board member positions over the years, including Club Historian. Babs was also the family historian, spending numerous hours researching and writing her family’s genealogy. As an accomplished gourmet cook, she loved entertaining family and friends in her home with open arms and a warm heart. A devout Christian, she was a long-time member of Colonial Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, MO.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Kay Lundberg, and her daughter-in-law, Debra Mathieson Lundberg.
Babs is survived by her husband, Verner Lundberg; sister, Nancy Wood and husband Jim of Northfield, Il; her son, James Lundberg of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Nancy Grove and husband Steve of Long Beach, CA; son, Steven Lundberg of Manhatten, KS; daughter, Lorri Hatfield and husband Kevin of Overland Park, KS; and eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren.
Always quick with encouraging words and a warm smile, Babs will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
