Barbara Lee Bauman, 69, Lakewood, California, passed away Sunday, June 1.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service times at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
Barbara was born July 21, 1938, in Olathe, Kansas, to Lois Lucille and Wallace Dewitt Bauman. She was raised in Olathe and graduated from Olathe High School. She attended Kansas University and graduated from Bethany School of Nursing in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a captain in the Air Force, headquarters medical services and stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. She was honorably discharged. Barb left Kansas City and lived in both Anchorage, Alaska and McAllen, Texas before moving to Lakewood, California, where she has been a resident for 40 years. She worked as head nurse in OB at Los Altos Hospital in Long Beach and was promoted to supervisor of nurses. She continued her education to become a Nurse Practitioner while at Los Altos. She then left Los Altos to work as a Nurse Practitioner for the Sheriff's corrections system of Orange County in California.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father. Survivors include her best friend of 37 years, Doris Reid of the home; Linda Seager-Closser and Nancy Seager-Tucker and their families; as well as many other cousins and family members.
