BARBARA BOSWELL COLLINS

Barbara Boswell Collins died January 24, 2011 at the Sweet Life at Grand Court. Barbara was born March 29, 1918, in Baxter Springs, KS, to James Henry Boswell and Maud Cramer Boswell. She graduated from the University of Kansas where she was affectionately called "Buckshot" by her Chi Omega sisters. Barbara, until her death, was a diehard Jayhawk fan dressing in KU colors for every game day. Barbara met and married Burton Wallace Collins Jr. on October 5, 1944, in Chicago, IL. They spent most of their married life in their beloved San Diego and La Jolla, moving to Kansas City in 1989. Barbara was a wonderful hostess, cook, gardener, golfer, mother and grandmother. We will miss her sweet smile and loving heart. She was active in Chi Omega Alumni, Elizabeth Benton Chapter D.A.R. and P.E.O. Chapter CG. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 58 years Burton, and a great grandson Luke Cirrus Leimer. She is survived by her children: Patricia Collins Byall (Von), Leawood, KS, Barbara Collins Kenton (John), Roeland Park, KS, Bruce Boswell Collins, Portland, OR; her grandchildren: Sarah K. Leimer (Joe), Mark E. Byall, Leah D. Kenton, Shauna C. Kenton, Jennifer J. Collins, Erin E. Collins and great grandchildren Kyle Roches and Olivia Marx; her beloved sister and best friend Jean Boswell Jones and her children Pamela Spinelli and Bradley Jones, many nieces, nephews and cousins. A private family service will be held with inurnment following. Many thanks to mother's caregiver Melissa McQuillen and the caring staff at the Sweet Life at Grand Court and Odyssey Hospice.
