Barbara Sue Courtney, 86, passed away peacefully at her nursing facility on October 23, 2022. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 1, 1936, to John and Susan Burch. Barbara graduated from Southwest High School in 1954 and went to William Woods College where she studied in the conservatory of music.
Piano and music always played a big part in Barbara’s life. She was an accompanist and music teacher at Cure of Ars for many years, she gave private piano lessons out of her home, and she was involved with the fine arts groups Crackerjack Theater and Camellot Academy. Barbara also found time to volunteer at Crittenton Children’s Center and was the church receptionist at Cure of Ars under Father Charles McGlinn.
Barbara is survived by her four children, Linda and her husband Stephen, David and his wife Robin, John and his wife Renee, and Steve and his wife Kerry, all of whom reside in Overland Park, Kansas. She always took great interest in her 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Barbara will be forever cherished as a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, and loyal friend to so many. She will be deeply missed.
The visitation, funeral service, and reception will be held at Cure of Ars Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and service at 10:30 a.m. Reception will follow the service. Graveside service will be held after the reception at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens.
