BARBARA ELLIS LEATHERS
Barbara Ellis Leathers, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on Monday July 5th in the company of family. She was born in Kansas City, Mo, graduated from Central High School and attended Baker University where she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. Barbara was a dedicated daughter, mother and grandmother. She was married to her late husband Dale for 54 years. Barbara loved music and was known for her beautiful singing voice in high school and college. She also loved lunch with friends, theatre, and art. In addition, Barbara had an affinity for nature, animals and wildlife.
Barbara is remembered by family and friends for her generosity, hospitality and sassy sense of humor. Her flair for entertaining, decorating and creating wonderful holiday memories for her family will be dearly missed. Barbara loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed taking them out for ice cream cones. She loved to travel and became especially fond of family trips to Sanibel Island, where one of her favorite pastimes was walking on the beach to not only enjoy the wildlife but rid the beach of litter.
Barbara is survived by her three children: James Leathers, Sally Leathers and Susan Thompson; son-in-laws, Rick Polhamus and David Thompson; grandchildren Kate, Alec, Caleb, Luke and Joel and beloved cat, Hannah.
Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. on Monday, July 12th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. The family will receive friends at the chapel following the memorial service.
