Barbara June Howard, 65, of Overland Park, KS left this world on Thursday November 21st.
She was born to Joan Morrison in Bowling Green, KY on September 7th, 1948. Barbara graduated from Hodgenville High School. Her senior year in high school she played saxophone with the marching band for the opening of the Kentucky Derby.
She married and made her way to Columbia, Mo where she raised two children, Kimberly and Neil. Barbara graduated from nursing school in Columbia with an LPN degree at the top of her class. She then went on to use her nursing degree in a variety of jobs from doctor's offices to retirement homes.
In 1990 she moved to Mulvane, KS for work where she was an active member of the community. She was a great home baker and won several awards especially for her decadent layer cakes and luscious pies.
Last year she moved to Overland Park, KS in order to be near her son and his family. Barbara attended Nall Avenue Baptist Church. She loved being near her family, especially her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by two children, three grandchildren, her mother, and two brothers.
A funeral will be held at Nall Avenue Baptist Church in Prairie Village, KS at 11am on Monday November 25th. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66213.
