Barbara Jean Dillon

d. March 4, 2012

Another member of the greatest generation waits with the Angels and will finally arrive in her most cherished home. The family of Barbara Jean Dillon announces the peaceful passing of their Mother on March 04, 2012. Graciously, she left us on Sunday, her most cherished day to be with her Lord and family. Similar to a preacher's pulpit, she spoke her words of wisdom around her kitchen table. Her children will always remember how she treasured her Daily Word and it was a ritual she held dear. She lovingly affected others right up to the eve of her death…her 80th birthday party.
Most of her life was spent in Kansas City, a Rosedale High School graduate and Ms. Kansas City in 1952. Her physical beauty was only eclipsed by her inner beauty. In 1952 she married John L. Dillon Jr. and gave birth to seven children.
Her professional career was spent working for Ewing Kaufman as a legal assistant for Marion Laboratories. She relished her many years in this position and happily retired in 1991. She loved to write and became a published poet, including this quote, "The tragedy of life is not in the fact of death, but in what dies inside man while he lives."
She was selflessly devoted to the primary mission of raising six children and they were her ultimate concern and her greatest source of fulfillment. The role of Grandma suited her better than any in her life and her capacity for selflessness was never on better display. We are forever grateful for the Easter egg hunts, Thanksgiving feasts and singing Happy Birthday Jesus every Christmas. She was a great mother and the grandest of Grandmothers.
She is predeceased by June Specht, John L. Dillon Jr. and her daughter, Michelle Dillon. She is survived by her children, Debra and Mike Savage, Victoria and Kevin Bader, John L Dillon III and wife Sue, Cynthia Dillon, Therese and Thayne Murray and Catherine Elizabeth and Jay Shouse. Her legacy remains active in the lives of her ten grandchildren, Erin, Caylee, Hayden, Caroline, Jarad, Abbey, Hunter, Will, Brenna Jean and Ryan. I am sure our mother would also like to acknowledge her lifelong special friendship with David Lipp, Sally Smith-Martin, Henry Specht and Margaret Ann O'Toole.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 8, 2012 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210.
