Barbara Walter Marmaduke, 94, passed away September 16, 2009, at Silvercrest Deer Creek Park, her home for the last four years. Barbara was born in Washington D.C. to Charles and Caroline Walter. From 1935 to 1941 she worked at the White House on Eleanor Roosevelt's social staff, handling correspondence and personal notes. In 1939, she married Stanley Marmaduke, a marriage that was to last 56 years! He preceded her in death in 1993. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Lynne (Patrick) O'Malley of Overland Park, Kan., and Sharon (Jerry) Valenta of Allen, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Barbara's wit and personality will be greatly missed by her family and her friends at Silvercrest. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 19, at Silvercrest, 13060 Metcalf. Visitation will follow 4-6 p.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf.
