Barbara Pigg Meitner was the first of twins born to Theresa Eibes and James Silas Pigg. Their mother died on April 22; maiden aunts Emma and Lilly Mae Eibes assisted with their childhood care. Barbara attended St. James grade school, and Saint Mary’s Academy and College, graduating with a degree in chemistry in 1938. On September 2, 1940 she married Raymond John Meitner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 51 years and her sister. She is survived by her four children: Barbara Emert (husband Tim), Phillip (wife Patty), R.J. (wife Sandy) and John; ten grandchildren: Kate Emert Farthing, Jennifer Emert Luetje, Babs Emert, Mike Meitner, Liz Meitner Applebaum, Gretchen Meitner O’Donnell, Phillip J. Meitner, Matthew Meitner, Gwen Meitner Willey and Craig Meitner; four great grandchildren: Thomas Michael O’Donnell, Nicholas Timothy Luetje, Cora Lynn O’Donnell and Nora Elizabeth Willey.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 22nd at 12:30 pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 9150 Pflumm Rd., Lenexa, KS 66215. Mass will begin at 1:30 pm following visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to the University of St. Mary, Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lakeview or a charity of your choice.
