Barbara Edith Mitchell died February 15, 2010, at home in Lenexa, Kansas. She was born on December 18, 1921, to Ralph Glenn and Bertha Elfreda Widmeyer Fetter. She married Paul E. Mitchell on October 10, 1942, who died April 4, 1986.
For the past six years Barbara lived with her daughter, Nancy, two of her granddaughters, and her little dog Ginger. She loved being involved with her granddaughters’ activities. She also loved genealogy, and traveled to Germany, among other places, developing relationships with relatives she discovered.
Barbara was a member of Van Brunt Presbyterian Church for many years until it closed in 2004. She was active in that church’s quilting group and later, the Legler Barn Quilters.
She is survived by her children, Gregory E. Mitchell (Christine) of Blue Springs, MO, Max E. Mitchell (Deborah) of Sedalia, MO, and Nancy L. Briney of Lenexa, KS; and her grandchildren, Emily W. Mitchell, of Sedalia, MO, and Shelby N. Briney and Abigail E. Briney, of the home.
Family and friends will gather at D.W. Newcomers Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2010. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be conducted at the same location at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010. A private graveside service will occur at a later date at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City.
