Bayard M. Grant passed away Friday, November 26, 2010. Bayard was born in Albany, New York on May 8, 1918. He attended Albany High School and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, graduating with a degree in business in 1939. Bayard served in the Army during World War II as First Lieutenant, Signal Corps at Fort Douglas, Utah, from September 1943 to April 1946 with an Honorable Discharge.
He married Marjorie Durwood in 1944. After the war they resided in Fairway, Kansas and then Mission Hills.
He was a commercial real estate agent until March, 2010 in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. During his career he was a lifetime member of the Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors. He served as a member of the Commercial and Investment Steering Committee for the Real Estate Board of Kansas City, Missouri, a board member of Truman Medical Center, and president of Homestead Country Club. Bayard was an avid tennis player.
He leaves behind daughter, Claudia Butler, and son, Dr. Michael Grant and wife, Dineel Grant, grand-daughter Alexandra Grant, grandson David Grant, brother-in-law Dick Durwood and his wife, Maureen, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice. Condolences can be left at www.johnsoncountychapel.com. There will be no memorial service; however, the family suggests taking a moment to commemorate Bayard in your own way on Tuesday, November 30th, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.
