Ben B. Siegal, 84, formerly of Detroit, MI passed away September 22nd at The Atriums, Overland Park, KS.
Ben was a first generation American, born to Isidor and Rose Siegal. He had three degrees from Wayne University. He was a World War II Army Veteran who served in the 1st Engineers Special Brigade, 3rd Armored Div, and the 89th Infantry Div. During his time of service, he was part of the first wave to invade Utah Beach. He was highly decorated and among his awards were 4 Purple Hearts and 4 Arrowheads. After the war, he taught in the Detroit public school system, owned two businesses, and eventually retired from the Department of Defense. Ben was a lifetime member of the Detroit Tennis Club as well as an accomplished, nationally ranked tennis player. He played into his seventies. His personal characteristics included honesty, integrity, humility, tolerance, self-sacrifice and a robust work ethic. The family would like to acknowledge the staff and other residents at The Atriums who have enriched his life during his residence.
Surviving Ben are his son, Bruce Siegal; daughter, Susan Jacobs; granddaughter, Lauren Fei Jacobs and his children?s mother, Violet Liem all of Overland Park. We will miss you deeply dad.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 26th at DW Newcomers Sons, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS.
