Berniece Barker Cox passed away Monday, April 21, 2008.
Berniece was born in Burns, KS on April 4, 1921 to Lee Channing and Mildred Scott Barker. She graduated from Burns High School in 1938, and attended Eldorado Junior College and American Business College. On April 20, 1952 she married Clinton Cox in Wichita, KS. She worked at the VA Hospital for 4 years before moving to Kansas City in 1956. She had 34 years service with the Government and retired in 1979 from Social Security as Assistant Manager of Module.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Asbury?s Keen-Agers, past member of Overland Park Chapter of ABWA, 3 year President of Asbury UM Women, and a member of the Shawnee Mission Slide Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clinton, July 19, 1992. Survivors include her daughter, Joleen Peterson, Overland Park, KS; step-daughters, Janice Kinser, Overland Park, KS, and Jean Kirtley, St. Louis, MO; and four grandchildren, JT Kirtley, Chris, Courtney and Cassie Peterson.
A celebration of her life will be held 7 PM, Friday, April 25 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Good Shepherd Hospice, 7611 State Line RD, Suite 200 KCMO 64114.
