Bertha Lillian Slusher, 92, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014.
She was born to Mae Chaney Mallicoat and Oscar Lee Mallicoat on July 10, 1921 in Peculiar, MO.
She graduated from Stilwell High School, Stilwell, KS in 1939.
She married Raymond Fair Slusher in 1940 and they were married 65 years. He preceded her in death in 2006.
In the 1960's and 1970's she worked for Central Surety Insurance Company in Kansas City, MO. She also worked for Waldo Bath Shop in Kansas City, MO.
She was the wedding Coordinator for the Stilwell United Methodist Church. Lillian and her sister worked together at the church cooking and cleaning. They wanted to keep things clean and neat for the church.
Lillian has been living at Silvercrest at Deer Creek Retirement Community in Overland Park and she was very active especially in setting up and keeping up their large library.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Slusher; parents, Mae Chaney Mallicoat and Oscar Lee Mallicoat; brother, Clarence Lee Mallicoat and two sisters, Helen Knoche (George) and Dorothy Van Daele (Art).
She is survived by one daughter, Ann Lovelace of Gravois Mills, MO; two sons, Tom Slusher (Kay),of Belton, MO and Lee Slusher (Sharon); three brothers, Harold Lee Mallicoat (Ruth) of Olathe, KS, Howard Woodson Mallicoat (Janis) and Charles David Mallicoat (Barbara) of Stilwell, KS; sister-in-law, Opal Brown of Olathe, KS; four grandchildren, Laura Ann Verhulst of Grandview, MO, Anita Slusher Williams (Dean) of Overland Park, KS, Jennifer Slusher of Kansas City, MO, and Matt Slusher of Belton, MO; six great-grandchildren, Cairlyn McSweeny, Cale and Brennen Riley, Makena Lemon, Celia Slusher and Samantha Verhulst and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care or Stilwell United Methodist Church.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Johnson County Chapel. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
