BETSY BONDURANT BROWN
Betsy Bondurant Brown, age 93, of Shawnee, Kan., passed away on June 8, 2011. She was born on Aug. 6, 1917, in Moberly, Mo., the daughter of Mary Oliver (Lea) and Leo L. Bondurant. They lived in Moberly, where she made many lifelong friends. Betsy graduated from Moberly Junior College and married her High School sweetheart, Charles Carter Brown, Jr. She became a homemaker and corporate wife. They had one daughter, Maribeth, to whom she became a loving mother and teacher. During the working years, they were transferred to many cities, such as St. Louis, Memphis, San Diego and Kansas City. Along with each new endeavor and new home, Betsy had the opportunity to show her decorating and sewing talents, which included making her daughters wonderful wedding dress. She was always welcomed into local social activities and made new, lasting friendships. They enjoyed traveling to many countries. She was also dedicated her time to scouting activities, the Symphony and Church, serving as both a Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church. Among the organizations that she was involved in were Phi Theta Kappa, PEO, DAR, Kings Daughters, Friends of Vision and Presbyterian Women. Betsy and Charles retired to the house they designed and built on Table Rock Lake and had 10 years to enjoy their retirement and new friends. Couples Bridge was an ongoing favorite activity for them. They were pleased to be able to share their lakefront home with their grandchildren, Julianne Clark and Charles Carter Clark. Her beloved husband, Charles, passed away in 1988. That same year, granddaughter, Julianne and her husband Richard McAllister gave birth to Betsy's first great grandson, James Richard McAllister. Several years later Betsy moved to Grosse Pointe, Mich., to be with her daughter and son-in-law, William S. Dear. In 2007 all three of them moved back to Kansas where Betsy was able to enjoy her two newest great grandsons, Brian Alexander Clark, age 10 and Charles Carter Clark, Jr., age 12, sons of her grandson, Charles and his wife Alexander Brianna. Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 20, at the Village Presbyterian Church, 67th and Mission Rd.
