BETTE JANE FARNEY PATTON
On January 4, 1941, Dr. Joseph and Wilma Farney welcomed their first child, and only daughter, Bette Jane, into the world. Better known as Jane, she passed from this life on September 15, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House.
Jane attended Shawnee Mission schools and later the University of Kansas. While attending KU Jane met and married Marcus Patton Sr. To that union two beloved sons were born, Mark (Kathy) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Fred, of Boise, Idaho.
Jane completed her education at Research Hospital School of Nursing, and remained there as a surgical nurse for twenty-three years. From childhood and into her later years, Jane's life and interests revolved around her family, friends, and trust in God. Her love for nature and animals especially flowers and birds was evident in the garden she viewed and maintained.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, and infant brother. She is survived by her sons Mark and Fred, daughter-in-law, Kathy, brother Dr. Nelson Farney (Mary Ellen) of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Dr. Kent Farney (Charlotte) of Novato, California. Her four adored grandchildren: Samantha, Kimberly, Mackenzie and Joseph, in addition to a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jane's life was enriched by the care and devotion of her caregivers, most notably, Mary Ellen Farney, Lora Jones, Bill Dickerson, Henry Urena, Lulabell Roberts and recently Samantha Patton who persistently saw that her needs were met and her future secured.
