Bette ?Lu? Gunn, born September 1, 1922, joined her husband of 64 years, Walter H. Gunn, on September 25, 2007. She was born and raised in Kansas City. While raising her children, she was a volunteer for various charities including CASA and Cystic Fibrosis. Even with the tragic loss of 3 of her sons, she embraced life and tried to live each day to its fullest capacity. Her courage to face new challenges, even cancer, was admirable and matched by few. She had a remarkable laugh and a sparkle in her eye that often made friends and family wonder what she was up to! She was a great tennis player in her early years, and served up a fair game until about a year ago. She rarely turned down an opportunity to play bridge, see a movie, or meet you for dinner at anytime in her life. She loved her many, many years of driving skiers, sunning, swimming and floating on the waters of Lake Lotawana. Lu loved spending time outdoors. She loved moonlit nights, and felt closer to family who were far away, knowing they all shared the same moon. Her wish for her friends and family was to light a candle for her in celebration of her life.
She joins her mother Mary P. Loos, her sister, Patricia Fowler, her brother, William Watson, her infant sons Douglas and Walter, and her third son, Timothy Gunn, and many friends as well. She will be missed, and always apart of the lives of her daughter, Nancy Mann, son, Richard and wife Pamela Gunn; granddaughters Dr. Allison Henschel and husband, Jim Henschel, Amy and husband Tom Gehlen, Hannah and Melanie Gunn. She was blessed and thankful to have in her life great -grandchildren, Ben and Sophia Henschel and Ashley and Emily Lu Gehlen. She always made efforts to keep up with her many nieces and nephews, and cared for them deeply. She leaves her family members the greatest gifts of all, her unequaled love and affection, zest for life, and always? those unexpected little surprises that only she could create. She was greatly loved by all who knew her.
Memorial services will be held at DW Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, OP, KS 66210 on Monday, October 1st at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the American Diabetes Foundation.
