BETTY JEWEL GEARHART, 90, formerly of Roeland Park, KS passed away November 17, 2012.
Graveside services and Interment will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210.
Betty was born December 8, 1921 in Silver Lake, KS to Callie and Ray Cowperthwait. A few years later, the family moved to the Argentine district of Kansas City, KS. Betty had many wonderful memories of her childhood, from spending the summers with her grandparents in Silver Lake to growing up in Argentine. She graduated from Argentine High School in 1939. After graduation, she went to work for Montgomery Ward. Later, she worked for the U.S. Post Office and General Electric Credit. Betty retired from GE in 1985. She was a member of the Ruby Avenue Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mike Heim of Roeland Park, grandsons, Eric and Ryan Heim, Ryan's wife, Alicia and great-grandchildren Hadley and Cooper, all of Kansas City, KS. Also surviving are sisters Jean Gearhart and Rosalie Free of Kansas City, KS. Betty also had many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Betty's dear friend, Phyllis Rockers for her kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Care Alternatives Hospice, 1420 NW Vivion Road, Suite 105, Kansas City, MO 64118.
