Betty Hudak

April 8, 1925 — September 12, 2015

Betty J. Hudak (1925-2015)

Betty J. Hudak, 90, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away September 12, 2015, at Villa St. Francis Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael, her parents, Louis and Jennie (Krosovic) Karner, and brothers, John and Carl.

Betty grew up in the New Castle, Pa. area and graduated in 1943 from Wampum High School in Wampum, Pa. She subsequently graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. Soon after, she met Michael Hudak, the great love of her life. They were married on Nov. 4, 1950, in Wampum and had two loving daughters, Cynthia and Nancy. Betty worked for 40 years as a nurse in the obstetrical department of Jameson Memorial Hospital, and retired as an obstetrical supervisor on Nov. 1, 1987. She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Wampum and the ABWA in Ellwood City, Pa. After Michael passed away in 1988, Betty moved to Houston, Texas, and then to Overland Park to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. In her retirement, Betty served as a volunteer at Memorial City Hospital (Houston) for 7 years and then at Overland Park Regional Medical Center for 12 years. She was a member of Church of the Ascension in Overland Park. Her feisty but nurturing personality will be remembered by many, as will her trademark sense of humor.

Betty leaves sister, Nancy Wallace (George); and daughters, Nancy Sammarco (Edward) of Overland Park, and Cynthia Del Monte (James) of Houston. Also surviving are grandchildren Eric Sammarco (Erin), Andrea and Allyson Sammarco, and James Vincent and Michael Del Monte; and great grandchildren Austin and Lucas Sammarco. A devoted grandmother, Betty loved nothing more than spending time with and enjoying her beloved grandchildren. Betty will be greatly missed by her family, but they are happy that she will be reunited with her husband, parents and brothers. A memorial service will be held at Church of the Ascension at a later date. Her family wishes to thank Catholic Communities Hospice as well as the staff at Villa St. Francis for their loving care. Donations may be made in her memory to Villa St. Francis Nursing Home, 16600 W 126th St, Olathe, KS., 66062. Condolences may be left at www.johnsoncountychapel.com.
