Betty Jean Maurer, 97, of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away on November 7, 2017 at her home. Visitation will be held at 10:00AM, November 15 until the memorial service at 11:00AM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Asbury United Methodist Church or Cross-Lines Community Outreach, 736 Shawnee Ave, Kansas City, KS 66105.
Betty was born on June 26, 1920 to Archie & Jessie (Geeslin) Miller, the fourth of seven children, in Latham, Kansas. She graduated from Latham High School and The University of Kansas with a bachelor of science degree.
Betty was united in marriage to John Stephen Maurer on December 14, 1941, in Lawrence, KS. They lived in San Marcos, Texas during John’s Air Force duty during World War ll. They moved to Sunflower Village after the war and soon thereafter settled in the Overland Park, Kansas area, raising five children.
Betty and John became charter members of Asbury United Methodist Church, Prairie Village, in 1953.
As a member of the “greatest generation” she was the greatest mom to her family. They always came first in her life. Through the years, her grandchildren came from near and far to be with their beloved grandma. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She will be greatly missed.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband John, of 73 wonderful years, in 2015; parents; brothers Ray, Malcom, Stanley and Rod; and sisters Mary Ruth and Joan.
Survivors include two sons; John S. Maurer, Jr. (Jan), Wichita, Kansas and William Miller Maurer, Westwood, Kansas; and three daughters; Susan Jean Randolph, Joplin, Missouri, Sally Jo Heuer (Denny), Watertown, South Dakota, and Mary Lou Framel (William), Overland Park, Kansas. She was blessed with 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
