Betty E. Overshiner passed away on March 1, 2012.
She was born in Omaha, Nebraska; spent her childhood in South Jacksonville, Florida; and has lived in Johnson County, Kansas most of her adult life, except for some years spent in Oak Park, Illinois and Los Angeles, California.
Her doctoral degree was earned at the University of Kansas with additional work from Menningers in Topeka, Kansas; Loyola in Chicago; and the University of California in Los Angeles.
After pursuing a career in teaching that included children, graduate students, and medical residents, she practiced as an independent psychologist.
Dr. Overshiner ranked as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Psychiatry at the University of Missouri Medical School.
She enjoyed serving on various boards and participating in numerous professional and cultural organizations. Her club memberships were Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles and Homestead Country Club in Prairie Village.
Betty was a long time member of Village Presbyterian Church, prior to which she had served as a Pastor's Aid at Linwood Presbyterian Church.
Her 34 year marriage to Jay R. Overshiner ended with his death in 1981. She is survived by a daughter Ann Sherman, Greenville, South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas, on Friday, March 9 at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the church.
