Betty Hayden Snook, 91, of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012. Betty was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 14, 1921 to Clarence and Lela (Nana) Hayden. She grew up in Chicago with a real love for dance and art. She met her new love and future husband Ray. Together they raised their two children while living in Fresno, CA, San Francisco, CA, Albuquerque, NM, Sunnyvale, CA, Chicago, IL, Amarillo, TX, Topeka, KS and finally Kansas City with the Santa Fe Railway. Betty and Ray celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death in 2000. Betty, better known as Mimi by everyone, was active enjoying golf, bowling, bridge, politics and watching sports. She was very involved in her children's and grandchildren's activities including scouts, school projects and sporting events. She was proud to have visited all 50 states and traveled the world with her family. Her greatest joys in life, by far, were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and being an avid Kansas Jayhawks fan.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ray.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Pam (Matt) Bowen of Kansas City, MO, and son, Craig (Sharon) Snook of Dripping Springs, TX. "Mimi", by which name she is more familiarly known, is also survived by seven grandchildren, Buffy (Matt) Gunter, Trey (Rebecca) Bowen, Stephen (Colleen) Bowen, Molly Bowen, Jeremy (Tian) Snook, Rachel (David) Damian, and Patrick Snook and seven great-grandchildren, Peter, Gracie and Meredith Gunter, Tommy, Brendan and Kendall Bowen, and Griffin Bowen, and two more on the way.
She had many "extended" family members who she loved as her own, Patty Walsh, Erin (Jason) Flood, Dan Walsh, Kara (Bart) Hoolehan, Kelly (Tom) Boling, Maureen (Sean Gratton) Walsh, John (Nancy) Bowen, Lindy (David) Pierre, Mathew (Lindsay) Bowen, Kerry Bowen, Kaitlin Bowen, Cathy (Tom) Cooney, Peggy (Tommy) Ding, Kelly Cooney, and sixteen more great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Carolyn, Lisa, Arlenda, and Teddy at Agape Managed Care Service and Kansas City Hospice for their loving care.
Visitation will be from 10-11:30AM on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30AM at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210.
