Bill Richards, 83, died February 15, 2015. He was preceded in death by Lois (Casler) Richards, his wife of 35 years, who meant the world to him, as well as his parents Frank and Bernice and siblings Frank, Jack, Pat and Shirley. Bill is survived by his son John Richards, stepdaughters Lisa Weir and Lora Slaymaker, and grandchildren Austin, Schuyler, Erin, Chrissy, Amy, Raley and Matt. He also leaves many good friends, including his best friends Marva and Sharon.
Bill was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 8, 1931. He attended Central High School in KC and served in the Korean War. He was an air traffic controller in Kansas City for 20 years. His second career of 35 years was as an asphalt estimator. He retired from Barkley Asphalt Company at the age of 80. He was an excellent poker player and this was his “part time job” for many years.
Bill and Lois traveled frequently to visit family and friends throughout the U.S. Bill continued this tradition after Lois died. He had a small group of close friends, who met in high school, that continued to get together socially on a regular basis. Bill was notorious for being a little gruff, but he had a heart of gold and was extremely generous. He lived an awesome, full life and will be sadly missed.
