Billie A. Hurd, 83, Olathe, Kan., passed away on October 11, 2007, at the Olathe Good Samaritan Center.
She was born Billie Ann Tillman on May 6, 1924, in Galena, Kan. Billie spent most of her youth in Joplin, Mo. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Joplin High School. She married Charles Arthur Hurd on July 27, 1950. They had been married 49 years at the time of his death. Billie was a member of the Village Presbyterian Church, and continued her worship in the chapel and in song at Olathe Good Samaritan. Billie was a homemaker, and worked for several years as a bookkeeper at Indian Hills Country Club. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle wizard, a loyal fan of Jayhawk basketball and a joyful and loving wife, mother and grandmother. During her years at Olathe Good Samaritan, she was a bright light and inspiration to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; mother, Ruby Isabel Boston; father, Richard R. Tillman; and sister, Jean and brother-in-law Fred Robinson. Billie is survived by her son, Mike and daughter-in-law Terri Hurd of Kansas City, Mo.; son, Greg and daughter-in-law Genna Hurd of Lawrence, Kan.; daughter, Cindy and son-in-law Ed Buckner of Lenexa, Kan.; and grandchildren, Matt and Megan Hurd, John, Alex and Ellie Ott, and Zachry, Jenny, Clayton and Becky Buckner.
Memorial inurnment services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Olathe Good Samaritan Center.
