Billy Benton Gwin, 92, of Overland Park, KS passed away on June 28, 2018.
Bill was born on January 21, 1926 in Hardin Township, Clinton, MO to Ethel May Elliott and Ben Gwin. He was raised on the family farm and enjoyed working outdoors. Bill played sports in high school and upon graduation entered the United States Navy where he served in Korea. When he was honorably discharged from the Navy, Bill attended the University of Kansas where he earned a business degree.
After his graduation, Bill began working in management at Katz drug store where he met the love of his life, Shirley Dell Tucker. Shirley and Bill were married on October 19, 1949 and were married for 61 years before Shirley passed away in 2010.
Bill had a successful career in pharmaceutical sales where he progressed into management until his retirement. After his retirement, Bill and Shirley enjoyed traveling, socializing with their neighbors and spending time with their four children and their families.
In their later years, Bill and Shirley attended Church of the Resurrection where they enjoyed fellowship and attending Bible studies.
Bill was a man of strength and character who took great pride in loving his wife and children. He will be greatly missed.
Family members include his children Steve, deceased (wife Beverly), Terry (Bonnie), Tim and Candice (Cindy) along with grandchildren Andy (Candy), Steve (Patti), Kristie, Terry (Sam) Emily (Adam), Katy (Richard), Taylor and his great grandchildren Zackary, Thera and Isabella.
We appreciate the staff at Sunrise of Leawood who cared so well for Bill during the last years of his life. You are all angels on earth and our appreciation knows no limits. Thank you.
A visitation will be held from 10 – 11 AM, on Tuesday July 3, and service at 11 AM at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66210. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
