Bonnie J. Hammel, 91 of Overland Park, Kansas passed away July 28, 2021. Visitation will be Thursday August 5, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas. Burial will follow on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas at 1:00 pm. Bonnie was born August 16, 1929 to parents Lyndon J. and Fay (Youtsay) Slingerland in Larned, Kansas. Bonnie had six sisters and one half brother who have all preceded her in death except for one sister. Bonnie was born during the Great Depression and could recall stories of hardship during those times. Bonnie worked from a very young age at the family restaurant and her constant companion was her sister Betty and they would tell stories about what the did as children. Later in life she enjoyed selling real estate for Bob Owen Realty, in Overland Park. Bonnie married Elroy Hammel on August 1, 1970 in Wichita, Kansas. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary last year on August 1, 2020. Elroy currently resides at Morningside Place near 81st and Metcalf in Overland Park. In their earlier years together they both enjoyed bowling with his coworkers. Bonnie became a member of the Overland Park Congregation of Jehovah’s witnesses July 1993. Bonnie made friends with everyone there so she was really beloved. Bonnie had six children from a previous marriage with Wayne Farhbach Cindy A. Scheinost, husband Phil Scheinost. Connie Fahrbach Wayne E. Fahrbach Jr. ( deceased ) Jimmy R. Fahrbach (deceased Tracy K Fahrbach, partner Keevin Brown Brenda J Fahrbach Bonnie has 7 grand children, 15 great grand children, and 4 great great grandchildren.
