At K-State he pledged Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) and was elected to Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Mu honor socieities. Boyce’s long career in the cereal chemistry and milling industry, which reached its peak as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President of Krause Milling Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was interrupted only briefly starting in 1951 when he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He served active duty for two years on the 10th Infantry Division and followed that with 3 years in the US Army reserves. During his career Boyce held increasingly responsible positions as a cereal chemist and manager at several flour milling companies including Standard Milling Company in Kansas City, Archer Daniels Midland in St. Joseph, Missouri, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Neenah, Wisconsin and Kansas City and Krause Milling Company in Milwaukee. His work and personal travel took him across the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and throughout the world. Boyce retired from full time work at age 65 in 1994 but never really stopped working as he developed a consulting practice and advised Molsen Brewery of Canada and several grain milling companies in the Midwest. Boyce also helped his son Byron start several successful business ventures during his retirement.
Boyce was a devoted Mason for most of his adult life. His father sponsored him into the Shawnee Lodge #54 In 1950 and he later transferred to McKinley Lodge #307 In Brookfield, Wisconsin. He served as Master of McKinley lodge in 1985, and as High Priest of the York Rite of Masons, and, along with Shirley, as the Worthy Patron of Acadia Chapter Order of the Eastern Star (OES). Later, he was elected to the Grand Line of the Royal Arch Masons of Wisconsin. After relocating back to Kansas he served there as the Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Kansas OES as well as the Grand High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons of Kansas. He also belonged to several other Masonic organizations. In 2015 Boyce was recognized as a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
