Brooks Schwarz

May 22, 1980 — August 7, 2018

Brooks Joseph Schwarz, 38, died Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at his home. Visitation will be Sunday, August 12th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park.  Funeral services will be Monday, August 13th at 10 a.m. at the same location; burial will be Tuesday, August 14th at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Emmeram, Kansas.

Born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, and Lenexa, Kansas, Brooks graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School, and at the age of 18, started his own painting company, Top Quality Painting. It was his personal relationships, attention to detail and standards for high-quality work that allowed his business to grow and thrive over the years. He valued his employees and considered them members of his extended family.

He loved to drive and enjoyed his vehicles—from his Ford F-250 Super Duty truck to his Honda Civic, and from his motorcycles to his boat. He was a huge Kansas Jayhawks basketball fan and shared that love with his four boys. He also spent countless hours volunteering for Boy Scouts of America and was known to help friends and relatives whenever they asked.

Brooks loved spending time with his family and friends at the lake and cherished being a part of his four sons’ lives in every way. From attending Haydn’s sporting events and band concerts to taking Austin to cooking classes and watching his orchestra concerts, he loved watching his older boys cultivate their own interests and grow into independent young men. Brooks’ deep love for his younger boys was seen through jamming together to their favorite songs, swimming lessons and rock climbing with Charlie, and cuddling with Sam before bed. Brooks has instilled in his sons his affinity for fixing things, and his pride for each of his children was unyielding.

Brooks is survived by his wife, Julie Schwarz, and their two children, Charlie, 6, and Sam, 2; his first wife, Veronica Sanford, and their two children, Austin Ryan, 18, and Haydn Brooks, 14; his mother, Jennifer Schwarz, his father, Joseph Schwarz (Jeannine), his grandmother Rita Schwarz, and countless family members and friends who loved him.

Serving as pallbearers at the funeral/burial will be Tony Dutton, Warren Garlock Jr., Adam Loper, Jared Melton, Keith Shives, Austin Schwarz and Haydn Schwarz.

The family asks that any contributions in memory of Brooks go to “Boy Scouts Troop 83” to support the Scholarship Fund, in honor of his deep devotion to Scouting. Please send donations to 575 South Canyon Drive, Olathe, Kansas 66061.
