Bruce Musgrave

Bruce E. Musgrave, 86, passed away June 11, 2018 at St. Luke’s South.

Bruce was born July 1, 1931 in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Arthur and Lola Musgrave. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1949 and attended the College of Emporia and Emporia State University. He interrupted his college education and the listed in the Navy. He served during the Korean War, making three deployments to the far east during his four-year enlistment.

He returned to Emporia State University and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Business, majoring in Accounting.He married Shirley Ann Smith of Emporia on April 11, 1954.

Bruce had several accounting management jobs in the Kansas City area before retiring as Vice President/Controller of a local lumber company in 1996. He volunteered for several organizations, mainly the American Diabetes Association and also numerous golf tournaments: Senior Tour, Nationwide Tour, and the LPGA Futures Tour. He enjoyed playing and watching sports.

Both he and his wife loved to travel, making several trips to Europe, especially to Switzerland, where they enjoyed the snow-covered Alps.

He was a long-time season ticket holder for the Kansas City Chiefs and was an avid KU basketball follower. He was a member of the Overland Park Masonic Lodge #436 and was active in the local chapter of National Association of Accountants, serving as president in 1978-1979.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley, and their three daughters with spouses, Joni (Larry) Sallaz of Olathe, Juli (Mike) Norman of Paola, and Jami (Joe) Wescott of Paola; one granddaughter, Angie McCoy; and one great grandson, Zane Botello of Olathe.

It was Bruce’s wish that no formal service is to be held in his memory. He will be cremated with a private inurnment at a later date.
