Byron T. "Bud" Collier, 79, passed away on August 27, 2013 from complications of a stroke. Bud was born August 21, 1934 to David and Eleanor Collier. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict on the U.S.S. Gregory DD 802 from 1952 to 1955. Bud graduated first in his class from the Great Lakes Naval Academy, and in his career he attained the rank of Machinist Mate Second Class. In 1970 Bud met the love of his life, Joyce, and they were married in 1973.
Bud Collier is preceded in death by his parents.
Bud is survived by wife, Joyce; brother, Clark (Cheryl) Collier, sister-in-law; Lois (John) Wohlgemuth, nieces; Kristin Glikbarg, Susan Wempe, Karen Wohlgemuth, nephew; David Collier and several grandnephews and a grandniece.
Funeral Services for Bud will be held on Friday August 30, 2013 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66210 at 11AM. A visitation will be held one hour prior at the same location. Interment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be sent to Korean War Memorial 11900 Lowell, Overland Park, KS 66213, Disabled American Veterans 8787 Old Santa Fe Rd Kansas City, MO or the Wounded Warriors Project 370 7th Avenue, Suite 1802 New York, New York 10001.
