C. Ray Meadows of Lenexa, KS passed away on Saturday, Feb 3, 2007 at Shawnee Mission Hospital.
Ray was born July 9, 1920 in Lawrence, KS. He graduated from Paseo High School in 1937 and went to work for Evans Electric in Kansas City, KS. He married Ruth Eleanor Brauch on July 19, 1941. Ray was drafted on February 23, 1943 and served overseas in WWII with the Army Corps of Engineers. Upon discharge, he returned to Evans Electric, and eventually became President. Later, Ray and his partner purchased the division and it became Kaw Valley Electric. He was owner and president until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, he and Eleanor traveled the country in a 36-foot Holiday Rambler, lovingly dubbed ?Gampa?s Big Bus?.
Ray was a prominent business man in Kansas City and was known as ?Strong Wire Ray?. He was a member of Kansas City, KS Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanias, the Monkey Club, and the Terrace Club. Mr. Meadows was active in the Kansas City Chapter of NECA. He served on the board of Directors 1957-1958, was chapter Vice-president in 1958, Chapter President 1969-1970 and Chapter Governor from 1974-1980.
Ray touched the lives of all he met with his hearty laugh and cheerful demeanor. He never met a stranger and rarely missed an opportunity to swap stories. He was a deeply principled man with a strong sense of honor and integrity. When unpleasant situations presented themselves, he was fond of saying ?It builds character?. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather, and a wonderful friend and we will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ruth Eleanor Meadows; two daughters, Christina Wreyford and husband Don of Shreveport, LA, and Pamela Miltenberger and husband Gregg of Maplewood, MO; granddaughter Jennifer Wreyford and husband Mike Wissolik of Lafayette, CO; and brother Barton Meadows of Overland Park, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence C. and Ruth H. Meadows; and brother Donald C. Meadows.
Funeral services will be 11am on Thursday, Feb 8 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. Friends and family will gather Wednesday, Feb 7 from 6:30 to 8:00pm at the chapel. Donations in Ray?s name are suggested to the donor?s favorite charity.
