Tom was born in Brownsville, Texas, where he remained until he went to college at Loyola of the South in New Orleans, La. After a brief career in print journalism, he pursued and achieved his master's in healthcare administration from Washington University in St. Louis. He became a Fellow of the American College of Hospital Administrators before his retirement in 1983. Tom met his wife and soul mate, Annie Servadio, at the VA Hospital in Houston, Texas. They were married for 30 joy-filled years before Annie was called home in 1993. Tom was proud to have joined the Servadio family; he loved each of Annie's 10 brothers and sisters as his own. Tom's greatest joy, especially after Annie passed, was being with his grandchildren. In his daily prayers, he never failed to thank God for bringing all four of his beloved grandchildren into his life.

Tom leaves behind his two daughters, Anna Stevens and Laine Cardarella (Anthony), his four grandchildren, Alexis Stevens, Kyle Stevens, Joey Cardarella, and Katie Cardarella, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family expressly thanks the ICU nursing staff at Menorah Medical Center and Dr. Harriet Langley for their compassionate care during his final days.
