Campbell Reed

May 20, 1925 — May 20, 2008

Campbell L. ?Cam? Reed, 83, left this life to be with his Lord on May 20, 2008, after a brief battle with acute leukemia. He was born May 20, 1925 and lived in Houston, PA until 1961. He served in the Army during World War II in combat in Europe and during the occupation of Japan.

After two years of study at Carnegie Institute of Technology, Cam joined the family business, the C. L. Reed Lumber Company. He also served as an officer in the volunteer fire department, American Legion, Rotary Club, Houston U.P. Church, the Lumber Dealers Association, and Young Republicans. Cam married Thelma Grace Bennett on August 5, 1950; they were blessed with three children.

After living in Malvern, PA for two years, Cam relocated to the Washington, D. C. area, working with the Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association, the Associated General Contractors, and the National Association of Home Builders. He was active in the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, MD.

Cam retired in 1991 and moved to Lenexa, KS in 1999. He was active in the Cedar Ridge (formerly Country Hills) Christian Church, where he especially enjoyed working with young children. [For his ?little people,? rocking in the chair with Cam was the best way to start Sunday morning.]

Faith and family were always Cam?s top priorities. His kindness and loving spirit were a blessing to his family and friends, who also appreciated his sense of humor. Most of all, he was known for his trust in God. Cam believed that God spared his life several times during World War II, and his trust in the Lord remained firm throughout his life and to his final ?homecoming.?

Cam is survived by his wife of 58 years, Thelma; daughters Judith (Mark) Morris of Laurel, MD, Deborah Miller of Fort Worth, TX, and son David (Fredricka) Reed of Lenexa; grandchildren Katrina Myers (Wesley) Nelson, Victoria Claire Reed and David Campbell Reed II, Jonathan Morris, and Amanda Morris; and great-granddaughter Janice Nelson.
